Odd Textpad error

Post by Charles LePage »

About 10% of the time, when I close out of Textpad 4.3.2, I get the following error message: "Textpad caused an error in TEXTPAD.EXE." All I do is click ok on the error message, and everything seems to be okay. What in the world is causing this error? Here's some basic stuff about my system:

Win Me
Pentium II, 450mhz
256 MB Memory
6597 MB Free Disk Space
1024 x 768 Resolution, High Color (16 bit)

Charles,

Normally, such messages display the address at which the error occurred. Next time it happens, please send that information in a bug report to support@textpad.com, to help us determine the cause.

Thanks

I'm seeing something similar. TextPad 4.3.2 frequently crashes when closing TextPad after having printed, or sometimes when the print dialog is displayed. If I don't print, I don't crash.

TextPad 4.3.2 32bit
Win 98 2nd Ed.
Pentium III 450 (mobile)
128 MB RAM

Here's the error message at the crash:

TEXTPAD caused an invalid page fault in
module TEXTPAD.EXE at 0167:0045f182.

Hi,

I have this error a lot on Windows ME (not just with TextPad). Fortunately, I finally decided to take the plunge and Win2k the box, and it works perfectly now. I don't think ME is everything it's said to be.

...just my opinion before I get into an ME vs anything else war :-P

Unfortunately, in Windows ME, you no longer get a detailed error message, but I will do what I can.

We have found a bug which may be related to this message thread. To reproduce it, use the File/Page Setup command to change a printer property, such as the page orientation, and then print a document. This causes TextPad to crash.

It occurs at 0045f182 on Windows 98 and ME, but not NT or 2000. The diagnostics for ME are written to a file called FaultLog.txt, in the Windows folder.

This problem will be fixed in a maintenance release, which is due out in the next few days.

Interesting note.... to see error message details in WinMe, I think all that you must do is press Alt-D -- even though there is no Details button I've heard that it works.

Charles,

This is the same bug. It will definitely be fixed in the next maintenance release, which is nearly complete.
