Guess nobody has an answer to this. Thank goodness UltraEdit is better than TextPad and I hate saying that, but it's damned true. I'll come back to TP when it grows up.

I do agree! If you must have one, however, check out UltraEdit at www.ultraedit.com - it seems to be the alternative of choice for TextPad users, including myself, I admit, when TP can't measure up.

No, that can't be the problem, either. I run scandisk often and defragment every fourth day. It's just an odd problem that I can't seem to figure out, even with you guys' suggestions. I'll keep trying, because yes, a 5Mb file isn't very large for TextPad.

Stephan's right: if you're a nonresponsive developer, then your product will continue to wither, as people who need certain features will go elsewhere to find THOSE specific ones. UltraEdit is a great editor, but with a lousy Word Count dialog and ugly icons. TextPad could use some more customizabil...

Thus the problem - why is it doing it on MY computer? It shouldn't be. I've NOTHING on this computer that should hinder TextPad's power. Has no one else had this problem... ever? Help!

Removing TextPad from right-click menu?

I don't want to uninstall TextPad, but I do want to remove it from my context (right-click) menu. Any idea how I do that? Thanks in advance.

I like that idea, esp. if it has a filter so that the file tree only lets me see what's filtered, i.e., .txt and .htm/.xml files and not Excel and picture files.

I'll keep using Ultraedit (damn!). TextPad is so much more efficient and "elegant" and I hate switching between the two for now. Any ideas why it opens large files SO slowly?

Quick point on Ian Mead at UltraEdit - I agree the godboy stuff is a little over the top, but it's mostly a story (or ultimatum to his god) that if he didn't sell 20 registrations to his UltraEdit editor, he would stick with his full-time job over just developing UE full-time. Apparently his god too...

Quick vs. Clean Programming

In other post http://www.textpad.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3077 , Stephan hits the nail on the head: Why don't we see more well-written software? From my "corporate" experience, I've seen most programmers (even highly experienced ones) go for the "quick and dirty" programming ove...
