I've just tried v5.0, with some trepidation after reading the bug reports etc here, and I'm pleasantly suprised. I'm sure I'll start tripping over bugs soon enough, but I'm very pleased with the new dockable tool output window. I've figured out how to get the tool output to point to source lines ...

I have resolved this problem on my machine - it was the dual monitor utility which forced window placement. In my case, it's an Nvidia utility. This morning, I went through the options and un-checked everything (to cure another problem) and when I used Textpad, I realised that it remembered my Find ...

I have similar behaviour, only the position is not saved across uses of the find dialogue, let alone across TextPad sessions. If I bring up the find dialogue, and move it to where I want it (from top-left to top-right); perform my search and then close it, the next time I bring it up, it's top-left ...

Thanks for the confirmation - it's good to know I'm not going crazy (or using a quirky install).

Cheers!

I hear what you're saying, Drxenos, but regardless of which files *.* catches in the In Files box, it shouldn't affect other expressions in the box, I don't think. Here's an example (single quotes are not actually typed in): Searching for 'foo' in files '*.*' Files found: 'dir\somefile.c, dir ...

Nicely done, Mudguard. This does indeed work, but raises another issue: If *.* is one of the expressions in the In Files, all others are ignored (including *.). It's as if a *.* search is dealt with as a different case to other searches, as though it is assumed that *.* matches everything, so no ...

Not sure where this got to. If you're still looking for either a place to host the reg exp stuff, or somewhere to put your website, I could help you.

The problem with *.* is that it means <anything><dot><anything>. I'm trying to search files that don't have an extension, so the <dot> is not present. Normally, this would be achieved using just * on its own, in grep or some other unixy tool. I'm trying to search both files called things like ...

Odd file matching behaviour using '*'

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on my problem, or if it's a Textpad bug? The problem is this: When I use Find In Files and put '*' in the 'In Files' field (without the quotes) Textpad doesn't search files without extensions. My understanding of * is that in this context it means 'all files ...

Copy loses focus

When Textpad has been open for a long time, it sometimes exhibits this odd behaviour: When I select text then copy it (using the ctrl-c shortcut) Textpad loses focus, so my resulting keystrokes are lost until I click on Textpad, or alt-tab back to it. It consistantly does this until I restart ...

Hm. I've had this problem before, and sworn at my computer for many months before finding it was a faulty mouse. It's not that I was letting the mouse button go unintentionally - rather that the mouse was glitching and doing it for me. I eventually noticed it in other applications and the finger of ...

Does the situation persist after rebooting? Yes, it does. I've rebooted the system, I've saved the workspace file I'm using under a different name to ensure it's not corrupt (not sure if that would make a difference anyway). The problem seems to only affect .txt files, but I have just created and ...

Tsk! My bad - I meant CTRL-tab

Thank you for humouring me! I've corrected this in the original post now.

Document selector quirk

Hello all, I've found an odd problem with TextPad 4.7.1 and wondered if anyone else has come across it: When Ctrl-tabbing through the document selector, documents are not selected in the order I last viewed them. If I hold down ctrl and repeatedly press and release tab, some documents in the ...
