I have to agree. As someone who uses the keyboard a lot for navigation within the "file > open" dialog, this is incredibly frustrating, once you move the selection over a file it's name appears in the "File name" box and then moving into a sub folder causes the message to appear....

You could add a field to the bottom of the Find in Files dialog and display the currently searched file there. Do your search first, then right click the results and choose "Open All", and then do your search and replace with Scope set to "All documents". This has worked well for me for year. Only have had problems if there have been hundreds of files to change as they all need to be open...
