It's not a TextPad thing, it's a Windows thing. Click in the margin of the TextPad window to bring up the Windows window and check or uncheck "Stay on Top."

Always on top? How to undo.
I've been using TextPad 7.6.4 happily for years, until tonight. It's doing what other applications call "Always on top." If TextPad is open, then it is always on top of other applications, even when they have the keyboard focus. If I quit and restart TextPad, it comes up on top of other windows ...

The short answer is, migrating from 5 to 6 and then 6 to 7 worked. But as always, it is not quite that easy. The first time I tried, failed. To make it work, I copied everything from my TextPad 5 to TextPad 6 folders (both in Program Files and in Application Data) before installing version 6, and ...

Migrating from version 5 to 7
I have been a happy user of TextPad 5.4.2 for many years, and today tried to upgrade to 7.4.0. According to the Installation Instructions, "This release is available as a free upgrade to registered users of TextPad 5 or later. Simply download and install it in its default folder. You do not need to ...

No dump file
When I last posted in January, I verified that my System Settings were as described above, except my Small Dump directory is %SystemRoot%\Minidump (Stephen omitted the leading % mark). And since then TextPad has crashed many times, when saving a file. But still, my %SystemRoot%\Minidump folder ...

Re: similar issue on XP SP 3
Does anyone know where to find the log on XP? Stephen MacDonald of TextPad Customer Support e-mailed me the following instructions. Of course this is for Win7 but it should work for XP as well. Check for a dump file as follows: Right click on My Computer and select Properties. Then select Advanced ...

Re: Crash while saving
My current PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on an i5 CPU with 12GB RAM - I was previously using Windows 7 Pro 32-bit (on an older PC - Core 2 Duo with 3GB RAM) and didn't experience any crashes with TextPad on that. I should note that my previous PC ran Windows XP Pro (32 bit) and never ...

Where is dump file?
Please send a copy of the dump file to "support@textpad.com" and we'll take a look at the problem for you. Excuse a dumb question, but which dump file? Where? There are lots of subfolders under C:\Users\pasco\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive whose names begin AppHang_TextPad.exe ...

Crash while saving
I'm using TextPad 5.4.2 under Windows 7 Pro (64-bit). Most of the time it works well, but every once in a while, it crashes while I'm saving a file (e.g. by Ctrl-S). In each case the behavior is the same: The screen is washed out (all text gets pale), TextPad is non-responsive, and when I close it ...

Textpad crashes with long invalid filename
I'm running TextPad 5.3.1 under Windows XP. I invoked this command line: textpad "2009-12-07 Attorney's opinion re: Responsibility for re-painting condo buildings.html" TextPad did not warn me about the disallowed colon in the file name. Instead, it asked my permission to create it, allowed me to ...
I can confirm that this problem has been fixed in version 5.3.1.

Same problem here
I have the same problem after upgrading from 5.2 to 5.3 on Windows XP. See here. (If I'd seen this thread I wouldn't have started that new one.)

Thanks for the link. Sure enough, others have the same problem. Unfortunately, nothing in that thread suggests a fix. At least Helios is aware of it.ak47wong wrote:See here.
