General questions about using TextPad

I'm just starting, after all this time, to look at the clip library.
How come if I click on Alt-188, showing as ¼, I end up with ╝ instead?

It's because you're using "OEM/DOS Script".
Select
Configure | Preferences | Document Classes | <Class> | Font | Script Western
or
View | Document Properties | Font | Script Western
or whichevr "script" is appropriate.
