Can't search and replace..."read only" problem?

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I couldn't find mention of it. I have an HTML file on my desktop. I right-click to open it in TextPad. After it opens, I immediately go to do a Search and Replace. When I do, I get a message in the status bar that "This document is read only".

It's not "read only", but TextPad tells me it is. If I dismiss the dialog box and type something in the file, just something to "dirty" the file, then the Search and replace works just fine.

Any ideas? It's a minor glitch that I can work around, but a glitch nonetheless.
