Windows Commander sometimes loses the message loop when textpad is started. The author explains this with a bug in DDE handling of the application.
I also have that problem with textpad. But different to the poster KTrh the version 5.03 does not fix it. It happens if I start textpad using double click or [Enter] on a text file.
It would be nice if you could check whether you can do anything to solve it.
Problem with Textpad's DDE compatibility?

You could try the following procedure. You only need to do the first part if you haven't already made the file association in TextPad.
From the Configure menu choose:
1. Preferences
2. Associated Files
3. Add the file extension
4. Click Apply / OK.
In Explorer:
From the Tools menu in Explorer choose:
1. Folder options
2. File types
3. Select the file extension from the list
4. Click on Advanced/Open/Edit
5. Untick the option to Use DDE
6. Click OK on the two dialog boxes
I hope this helps.
