Provide a way to set the File/Open default view to "Details".

Yes, please. Although in reality, it shouldn't be implemented as "set the default to details" but "the dialog should remember what setting you last used and restore that when the window opens". That way, if you really like large icons, you can have that, too. Having said that, default to details would solve MY immediate problem, as I always use Details as well, so that would be an acceptable work-around for the time being.
