Using 4.72 to open flat files across the Net

I am using version 4.72 on an XP station and a win2k server. Both use the default install. On XP I can use Open File(s) to access a flat text file from an Internet site, but the win2k system fails with an error message stating "C:\My Docs\http://192.168.1.1/textfile The above name is invalid."

I don't understand why the XP system recognizes the IP address as a website but the win2k system is thinking the path is local to the hard drive.

Is this an OS issue?

Try the same thing on both systems with (argh...) Notepad to find out whether it is a system related difference.

Must be system related. Notepad fails on win2k but works on XP. Time to chase my tail looking for an MS fix.
