Error on 2nd save of changes to file shared via Samba

Post by BryanCook »

I receive an error when attempting a second save of changes to a file shared via Samba. For example;

1) open file on a Samba share.
2) Type a word in the file.
3) click the save button. Change is saved successfully.
4) Type a second word in the file.
5) Click the save button. Textpad responds with the error message "The parameter is incorrect.".

If I close the file I am able to repeat the steps above. I experienced this problem when I upgraded from Textpad 4.5 to 4.7.2. The problem goes away if I re-install 4.5. This problem does not occur with my other shares on NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 servers.

I am running Textpad on Windows XP Professional SP1.
The version of Samba is 1.9.16.
Samba is running on a Sun Enterprise 3000 with Solaris 2.6.

This sounds like a variation of the cannot read files on CD problem. (See page 5 of that thread for the resolution.) Can you work around it by setting "When files are modified by another process" to Ignore, on Configure/Preferences/File?

I receive the same error with "when files are modified by another process" set to "ignore".
