Save Open File Dialog settings?

I am constantly changing several of the settings on the open file dialog box. First I make it bigger, then I have it show detailed file information, and often I sort by the modified date in descending order. Is there any way to save these settings rather than having to redo them every session?

TextPad uses Microsoft's common Open File dialog box, which unfortunately does not support persistence for its settings. Interestingly, in MS Office, Microsoft use a custom version of that dialog box, which does. I wonder why they haven't released it to the masses?
