IMHO the most lacking feature from TextPad is the ability to run a tool as a "text filter" in other words, the ability to run a system command, piping the selected text (or entire document if nothing is selected) to stdinput and replacing the selected text with whatever is returned to stdoutput (or doing nothing if no text is returned). Such a command would be perfect for text formatting programs (such as HTML Tidy). Although in other ways inferior to TextPad, EditPlus (www.editplus.com) implements this feature very well.
Another, albeit less useful, workaround would be to implement a "$ClipPaste" tool parameter macro to compliment $Clip (someone else has aready mentioned this option in the forums). At the very least this would allow an external script to access the clipboard contents, modify them, then insert them back into the document. Right now there is no way to get them back into the document.
