We have a Group Policy that restricts users' access to the "Run" command in Windows. According to the help file (and other posts here), this Group Policy/registry setting also prohibits access to the "Tools" menu under "Configure-Preferences"; however, we do indeed want our users to be able to access the "Tools" menu - how can we do so while keeping the Group Policy intact?
Specifically, we want to set system-wide options for Java SDK stuff but this seems more general than Java-specific since they cannot access the Tools menu at all.
Based on the help file entry I created a registry entry at HKLM\Software\Helios\TextPad 4\Policy\Capabilities w/ a value of 0, assuming it would see it as no restrictions but it did not work. I've also tried giving all users full control of the various "Helios" regristry tree branchs with no results.
So, either of the following would be a solution:
- override the "No Run" GP/registry entry to allow access to the tools menu
- globally specify the values for the JDK tools options (prompt for parameters, etc.), even though other users cannot see the "Tools" sub-menu
If there are no other solutions we can allow access to the "Run" command but, being a school, we would prefer not to.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
