closing down program

closing down program

In the editor bluej when you have a java program running and you go back to the code to make alterations the programs closes itself automatically. in textpad the program does not close. it remains open and i find this a nuisance as i have to end up closing all the programs that are open from previous runs. is there anyway to change the feature so it is the same as bluej?
