When I click File/Open I get a window.
It lists files without full details
When I click for full details in parallel colums, the box is blank
This also has happened to Explorer, I can list the short file name but not the full details, but CAN do so in PowerDesk
I htought I saw that this was a know bug in 4.6 coming from an error written into the registry
So, to fix it I installed 4.7 and the same problem remains.
What registry entry needs to be deleted or edited to restore this function?

AFAIK the file dialog used by Textpad is the system dialog.
One thing that happens in Windows from time to time:
all detail columns mysteriously are set to a width of 0.
Try the following:
in the detail view of Explorer and/or File dialog:
move your mouse pointer to the very left edge of the header line (the line with "Name", "Size", "Type" and so on in it)
Now try a double click - it should size the column to the size needed.
Repeat procedure till all columns are displayed with a non-zero width.
Alternatively, put your mouse pointer on the left edge of the header line, press and hold left mouse button, move mouse pointer to the right, release mouse button.
Repeat procedure till all columns are displayed with a non-zero width.
(it sometimes is a bit hard to find the exact spot for double-clicking/starting the drag)

You certainly do know. I did exactly as you said and as you predicted the columns had indeed been telescoped into oblivion.MudGuard wrote: ... the file dialog used by Textpad is the system dialog.

All fixed. My profound gratitude.
