Binary files locked while editing?

On my Configure/Preferences/File menu, "Keep files locked while editing them" is *not* checked. And indeed, other applications can access text files open in TextPad's text mode. But not so for binary files! If Textpad has a file open in binary mode (Hexadecimal display), then other apps that try to access it get "access denied."

Is it possible to set things up so that other apps can access a binary file while a copy of it is open for display in TextPad?
