Help! Shortcut Keys no longer work

What have I done?

None of my short cut keys work. Whenever I press "backspace" or Cntl-C for example, all I get is a block character.

I have tried to go to Configure-Preferences-Keyboard and Reset the assignments but it seems to have no effect.

I have experienced a similar problem. I was able to solve it by going to Configure->Preferences->Keyboard, selecting the Edit category, selecting the EditBackspace command, removing the Backspace current key, then adding it back in.
