Open dialogue macro

It's long annoyed me that every time I open the File Open dialogue, I have to set it to "detail" view and sort on "date modified" in order to get the view I prefer. TP doesn't remember my previous configuration and thus doesn't use it as a preference. With 4.5, though, the release notes say:

"Implemented a command to set keyboard focus to the last active view, when it is in a modal dialog box. It is necessary to assign a shortcut key to View.ActivateView, before it can be used. "

I don't know what this is talking about. But:

1. It's not suggesting a way to solve my little annoyance, is it?

2. If so, how do I do it? (I already assigned the shortkey to the View.ActivateView command.)

3. If not, does anyone have a workaround?
