General questions about using TextPad

I have one document, ".html" where the tab stops go 5 characters. The settings specify 3, and all my other documents comply.
Any idea why this may be happening?

Ok, I resolved this. Some how my default configuration got changed.
I do not understand the way the default type takes precedence over the specific document type.
