cntrl-tab configuration options?

Post by Scott Herman »

I am using textpad 1.32a. I know, It's old, but I have not been able to get the new version to work the way I want it to.

Here is my delema...

In version 1.32a, if I open let's say 10 files so that I can make changes on each one (not global changes), as I make changes and save each file, I can hit cntrl-tab to go to the next file in the order that they were opened. Shift-cntrl-tab goes back to the previous file in the order that they were opened.

In the newer versions, once I save a file and hit cntrl-tab, it goes back to the last file that was saved. I can't just move on to the next file on the list with cntrl-tab like I can in 1.32a. How can I set it so that it simply goes on the the next file in the order that they were opened like in 1.32a? It is very difficult to keep track of which files I have changed when I cannot easily get to the next file on the list with a quick keystroke.

Does this make sense?

I would appreciate it if someone could help me resolve this issue.

That behavior is exactly what I like! With Ctrl-Tab you jump back to the most recent file. So when you go through a lot of files with Ctrl-Tab looking for a specific file, and when you have found it you read or edit there for a while, then you can jump immediately back to the file you started from with just one Ctrl-Tab. As far as I know this is a standard behavior for Ctrl-Tab.

In TextPad 4.5 you can access the first 10 open files with Ctrl-1 to Ctrl-0 on the seperate number block on your keyboard. The limit is (of course) 10 files.

Nope, this is not the standard behavior for cntrl-tab. Try in in Excel or photoshop. You will see that the file order remains the same whether you have just saved a file or not.
