Hi out there,
within TextPad you can switch on the row-numbers. Is there a similar function for the columns too?

Line numbers -- menu options: View > Line numbers
Column numbers:
1) Remember that the column of the cursor's position is visible in the Status bar, the third gray box (when counting from the left).
2) My only other suggestion is to type something like this at the top of your file:
....v....1....v....2....v....3....v....4....v....5...
and then click and drag down the split-control that sits about two millimeters above the your scrollbar. The pointer will change when hovering over the split control.
Now when editting in the bottom pane, the top (narrow) pane will show the column guides you entered. The guides even move with the text when you scroll right or left.
Hope this helps,
Roy
