disappeared: toolbars, clips, file list

I have probably messed up my 4.4.2 installation:

toolbars, clips, file list - they are all gone! And they do not reappear.

When I activate the "checked" mark in the View menu, something seems to happen at the left margin of the textpad window - like it's increasing in width for a few pixels - what can I do to correct this ? Change to default set of definition files and clips?

The problem apparently started after installing the TPLink patch (file creation date probably = 16.4.2000) that makes windows NT think that textpad is notepad. (I downloaded one of these from the website)
