Saving the undo buffer? possible?

I want to save my editting session. Is that possible?
I tried undo'ing back to the beginning of my edit session, turning on macro recording, and redo'ing, but redo is disabled
if macro recording is on.

Is there a temp file I can save off? Or any other way to replay the keystrokes that resulted in the current version of a file?

I'll leave the doc open...
