Formatting lost

Post by Paul Rogers »

I downloaded TP yesterday for a look -- and set a document with hard wrap at 65 characters, preferred font etc; but opening it up again after closing TP down resulted in all document preferences being lost.

Is this part of the 'nag' or have I done something wrong here?

Thanks, Paul R

No, it's not a "nag".

There are permanent Document Classes, whose settings will persist (Configure --> preferences --> Document Classes) for ever.

But if you changed the settings from within the Properties dialog (the top item when you right click), these settings only exist during the life of the document. As soon as you close the document, the settings go away.

The properties dialog is really a "very temporary document class".

Hope this helps you, Paul.

Speaking of which (and this only applies to the Properties dialog), having to manually set ALL those properties, each time you open a document, is crazy. Why not temporarily set the current document to an existing document class? I wrote about this idea a while back:

Yep, I get it. I agree, I would not want to re-set properties each time the doc was opened!

Just set the text class okay.

Maybe a note in the document properties dialogue to explain briefly might be useful.

Thanks Jeff
