row length restrictions?

I am doing some text processing in Textpad using files with rows of characters several thousand long. After the rows go over a certain lengh, Textpad starts saying the files do not contain ASCII characters and refuses to open them correctly. Has anybody else experienced this problem, and if so, do they know how to solve it.

I think I remember a time when Textpad was not able to process lines longer than 4096 characters. TP offered to break these long lines or to stop loading.

But as I just tested it works with lines longer than 100 000 characters.
And I do not get any warnings.
Which version of TP do you use?

I'm using Textpad 4.4.0.

Thinking about it, I remember a time when I was using Textpad and this
was never a problem. Maybe, the files I was using at the time were short
enough, or an upgrade has introduced a new problem.
