Praise for TextPad

I wanted to share "with the world" how much I like the TextPad software. I am a programmer who does a lot of work with text files, and TextPad has really done a good job. It handles the basics very well and has great advanced functionality. Search and replace works beautifully, document compare, macros. I'm very happy with the tool and believe it was definitely worth the price.

Feel free to publish these comments wherever it will help "get the word out" about this product.

Here, here. In fact, I'm of the opinion that with just a handful of additional features, Textpad could make a pretty convincing case for the best Integrated Development Environment (IDE) out there... it still needs:

1. Dockable Seach Results and Command Results
2. Bold & Italic text allowed in syntax highlighting
3. Multiple ways to sort the Document Selector
4. Optional pop-up variables and subroutines as-you-type (matches with RegExp)

...Add that, and you've got the perfect software to use in developing.

Indeed, TextPad rules!
I have been using TextPad for over 2 years now. It is by far the best editor in the land! (and on the net I almost feel like I should have had to pay more for it. Maybe everyone else's software is just overpriced.
I routinely use and access all the workgroups I have set up for the 20 odd websites that I maintain, and I am constantly working on new additions. I use TextPad for VBscript, Jscript, perl, javascript, css, HTML, and just plain text notes
I utilize the macros, regular expressions, clip libraries, bookmarks, hotkey customizability, spell checker, and syntax coloring to an extent bordering on abuse -- and TextPad holds up like a champ. I can and have custom tailored my TextPad to fit my needs to such an extreme extent that I have completely optimized my development and coding speed No other software can possibly compare, and could never replace TextPad.

KUDOS! A great product. Makes you wonder why Microsoft didn't include it instead of Note/WordPad. I use it to program in SAS. It is actually a better IDE than the one that comes with the software. Syntax coloring can't exactly jive with SAS syntax but still. Keep up the good work.

Why? I'm curious. What about your syntax is confounding TextPad? Is it possible you're not familiar enough with the syntax highlighting capabilities?

(Syntax coloring is one significant part of TextPad *I've* not mastered, for sure...)

Instead, I want to draw attention to two other programs which may do similar
feats of power and economy for spreadsheet and database applications.
Their licenses are as cheap as that for TextPad, or cheaper.
They are GS-Base and GS-Calc, made in Poland by J. Piechura.
They feel very similar to TextPad, being developed on the same VC++6
system, and like TextPad, they make the rest of the field look like it doesn't
know what it is doing!

I am a registered user of GS-BASE but, as I have informed the author, will stop using it once an acceptable substitute can be found. The reason is simple: He now requires you to pay $10.00 (US) every year just to get updates on the program.

I won't be indentured to this guy for $10.00 a year — the occassional major revision, sure, but bleed me annually? This may just be the dumbest business model I have ever encountered in shareware, guaranteed to turn off droves of people who would rather pay a little more for their program up front . . . and be provided with the traditional customer service that comes with that as part of the purchase price.

The program won't win any beauty contest either, believe me. I'm shopping.
