Textpad 8.23.3 reopens twice after I close the program

I recently upgraded to Textpad 8.23 on a new computer running Windows 11, from a Windows 10 machine. I usually open my .txt files by locating the file in File Explorer and double-clicking. When finished, I close the program using the "X" in the upper right. Textpad reopens itself with a blank document. I close it again, and it reopens again. When I close the second time, it doesn't reoccur.

I have searched the web and this forum and haven't found any related posts. Any idea what causes this behavior and how to stop it?

Please check that you are running version 8.23.4 and that only one instance of TextPad is started by File Explorer when you double-click a file.
