9.6.2 will not install on managed computer

Post by pbulley »

I use a managed computer for work. The install appears to fail if I install for myself or all users. i need to enter admin credentials too. On examination nothing is installed in Program Files or AppData, yet the install reports being completed successfully. No issues with 9.6.1.

Please will you define what you mean by a managed computer.

To see what's going wrong, you can create a log of the installation process as follows:

Code: Select all

TextPadSetupv9-x64.exe /exenoui /q /log output.txt

My "managed" i mean domain-joined with very restrictive security policy. I have admin credentials to use when required. I'll run the installer again (currently back on v9.6.1).

More info...
when installing on said managed computer, as well as another 'clean' manged device, even id choosing the 'for me only' option it still prompts for an admin credential to install, at which point it then writes files in the admin account's profile. When running as the normal user ther si no permission as you'd expect. Why does it prompt for admin? There are no system/shared files to install, surely?

Installing 'for me only' or all users results in the same thing - the app is installed in the profile of the admin user.

I have a workaround... added my user account to local admin group (which will be over-ridden at next login by policy), install TextPad 9.6.2 - all good and does not require admin to run. :)

This was due to a misconfiguration of the installer. It has been corrected, so download it again and it should work as you expect.
