... and you plan to keep TP7 at least for a time, you may want to open TP7 and remove your TP7 shortcuts (Configure, Preferences), then open TP8 and create your TP8 shortcuts.

Also, if you used Replace Notepad in TP7, and you now want TP8, uncheck the box in TP7 and check the box in TP8.

I have AutoIt Macros that run TP7, which I've gone through and replace with the TP8 executable path.

I store Tools, Macros, Custom shortcuts, Syntax, User dictionaries, and Clip Libraries in folders under %appdata%\Helios\TextPad\7, which I've now moved to %appdata%\Helios\TextPad\8

I had a shortcut to TP7 in Autohotkey, which I've switched to TP8.

Just some random thoughts to help with your upgrade.
