how do I get my search results window to work

how do I get my search results window to work. I have two questions here if I can get some assistance in using this window or if there is a software issue.. or maybe my expectations are wrong?

1)
I am trying to see the search results when I do a find in all files, I see in the forums there have been some posts on that in the past.. but I could not draw a conclusion after reading them if it was possible. Can I find what file the search result in is if I find in all files?

2)
but to be honest, I have not seen anything appear in the search results window wheather working with one file or multiple.. what should I expect form this window?
