Error Dbl-clicking associated file

Post by CWBillow »

I have "dbp" files associated with Textpad -- and have for ages , till now.

Now, if I have a dbp file on my desktop, and dbl-click it, I get an error:

"There was a problem sending the command to the program."

and the file doesn't load, even though Textpad starts up.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing. Didn't work.

I tried associating the file with Notepad++ (which worked) and then coming back to Textpad. Didn't work.

How can I fix this error, and reset the association?

I have the same problem with a newly updated Windows Xp to Windows 7.
The internet describes this problem as occurring for many different programs and the solution seems to be to edit the registry and remove a "command" entry which is interfering with DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange). I haven't figured out which registry entries apply to TextPad yet.

Update

Well it is working. Not sure of the fix but this is what I've done.
1. Turned off the tips screen.
2. Right after turning the tip screen off I upgraded my system to Windows 8. When I click on a .txt file Textpad no opens the file properly. So...
Try turning off the tip screen to see if that in fact fixed it. I think it may have possibly been the fix because nothing else works until you close it.
