Batch interface to tools

I am running a program that produces a warning file.
That program then brings up textpad editing the warning file.
I run a tool that does a TYPE $filename to put the warning file into an output window. I can now dbl-click the lines in this output window to edit the original file.
Question: Using the batch interface, can i bring up the output window directly and save the step of running the tool?
