Since moving to a new PC (Windows 7 / Multicore CPU) from XP on a Pentium 4, I am occasionally finding that Textpad hangs when saving a file edit with control-S
I then have to do a force close with Task Manager and restart Textpad.
BUT! the bad bit is that the file I was editing has been replaced by a same-sized one filled completely with NULLs! The file I was working on has been lost. There is also a TXP{4hex chars}.tmp file created - also the same size, and full of NULLs - in the same directory.
I can avoid losing all the data by having .BAK files created, but this is no real solution. The problem seems to occur most often when I am working on Perl scripts, and rapidly keying a sequence of control-S, Alt-Tab (to get to a command window), Up-Arrow (to get the last 'test run' command), Enter (to re-try the script).
The is very annoying! Does anyone else see this? I see from a post of 2007 that a similar issue was reported as being related to Anti-Virus software - but in my case I am using Sophos anti-virus, and this is the same (though probably a more up-to-date version) as on the old PC.
Is this related in some way to tasks and sub-tasks being handled by different CPU / cores? I had the same problem on an intermediate PC with a dual-core processor, but still running XP pro - unfortunately this was flood-damaged and I can't replicate the problem in that environment.

Re: Textpad fails to save file data
I am finding the same thing. In my case this is after upgrading to 8.18.1, and also upgrading from Windows 10 to 11, home edition.
I wonder if the problem is related to my use of multiple desktops, a feature new with Windoz 11 and one I use extensively.
