Write Protection from a file disappear if

Post by Kolle »

Hi folks

I use Textpad sometimes as a second view to c/c++ files (for search and control) while the 'main-application (Eclipse)' acts as Editor.

So it's a good thing to activate in Textpad the files write protection from the "configuration menu"

Bud if Eclipse save changes to that file Textpad don't remember that there was a write protection for that file.

I can't find a usefull reason for that behaviour and think it will be better if Textpad holds the write-protected state for files which are changed outside.

greeting
Kolle

PS: Textpad 4.7.3, but a short test for a 5.x.x release shows the same behaviour.

Hi folks

is there a chance that this bug will be solved in next revision?

Every day I step into this trap and modify inside textpad cause it is unable to hold the write-protection state for a file.

Over years I use textpad because it's a very useful editor, but this behaviour is every time good for trouble

My guess would be: No.

Please try implementing the following procedure in TextPad:

From the Configure menu choose:

1. Preferences
2. File
3. Under the heading "When files are modified by another process", check "Ignore"
4. Click Apply / OK.

I hope this helps.

@helios
Thanks for the tip.

The file is write-protected in Textpad.
External writing is not recognized from Textpad, so far so good.
Reload the file in Textpad switches off the write-protected mode :(

It is ok if textpad load an external changed file again but should hold the write protected mode.

In hope ...
