Visible spaces

I currently have 5.3.1 installed, and just downloaded 5.4, which I plan on installing today. However, for as long as I can remember, I've had the visible spaces (para, spaces, and tabs) option turned on (Configure > Preferences > View > then at the bottom), however they never do, unless I press the visible spaces icon on the toolbar

. I have Win XP pro, all updates installed.

Does anyone know what's up?

sounds like your preferences aren't being saved. Try this:

Before setting preferences, close all documents, workspaces.

Set your preferences

Close TextPad

Reopen TextPad, you should be good.
