search and replace a new line

I am trying to break a line in to two line using search and replace. I have tried using \n but it does not show up as a new line, it shows up as \n. I have tried a bunch of control characters as per the help files but i am missing some thing. Help me please

Make sure you have "regular expression" ticked in the find/replace dialogue box.
