Disk Full error when opening a 500M file

I'm getting a Disk full while accessing <filespec> error while trying to open a 497M text file.

It seems like I've edited files that large before with Textpad, but I wouldn't swear it on a bible

Any ideas? I'm running 4.6.2 now. I have >7G of free disk space on the drive where the file / Textpad / Windows / TEMP are all located (C: drive).

Is there enough space on the harddisk where your system's swap file is located?

Yes, plenty of free space where the system swap is located.

Support suggested that the problem is due to the size of continguous free space within system virtual memory, and that defragmenting the swap file is in order.

I've resolved my problem by going down a different path and avoiding opening the file.
