Since 4.6, Textpad seems to go into a loop when I try to open a file that has no extension. It happens with both a File/Open and double-click from Windows.
Anyone else run across this?
Thanks,
Andrew.

Re: Freeze opening a file with no extension
I've been getting the same thing, but it seems to stop if I disable my Anti-Virus software. I'm running Norton Anti-Virus Corporate edition, whatever the latest version is, how about you?

Re: Freeze opening a file with no extension
You're right - disabling the realtime scan on my antivirus also solves the problem. I am using the Computer Associates one, variously called InoculateIt or eTrust Antivirus.
Using Task Manager I can see that the two processes are each running at ~50% CPU while Textpad is trying to open the file.
Is there an alternative to shutting down the antivirus scanner?

Re: Freeze opening a file with no extension
This seems to be a more general problem.
Environment.
Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 3.
NetWork Associates NetShield 4.5 for Windows NT/2000 with Virus definition
4.0.4246 and scan engine 4.1.60 (McAfee?)
When the Virus protection is enabled, TextPad hangs up while opening files. This does not always happen on the first file open. However, If I save a file (junk.txt) and then try to reopen it TextPad will freeze. It seems that the problem happens when TextPad goes through a Save/Close cycle and then tries to reload the file.
When I stop the Virus protection (from the Task Tray) TextPad works as expected.
I think this must be related to a change in the Virus Protection side. I only recently noticed the problem. I have upgraded to 4.6.2 and still have the problem.

Same problem description here, but I'm using Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition on Win 2K sp3.
