save preferences between TP instances

When I set my preferences for text color, background color, font type, etc... and then open another instance of TextPad, I'd like the new instance of TP to automatically use the preferences that I'd just made. Do I have to make a document class to do this?

Now I'm opening up other instances of TextPad and they open with the settings I'd made! It wasn't doing that an hour ago. Go figure.

Sometimes you need to close an application before changed settings are stored. So I assume that you kept TP running the first time.
