TP 4.5 & .6 hang with XP

I am running Win XP Pro, and double clicking or open file will cause TextPad to lock up at some point, either open, after open, or on closing. DDE is turned off, patch DLL shellext.dll is installed. Problem seems to appear only when accessing the network. Local machine files behave normally. Is there anything I can change in XP or take to the network guru to help get this fixed?

I found if you keep the file locked while editing this sloves the problem

Configure>Preferences>File
click check box for 'Keep files locked while editing them

I think that was it. TP opens without a file dramatically quicker too. Double-clicking on a network file now pops it up immediately.
