I've been using TextPad for a couple of years now and currently running version 4.4.0. I use Microsoft's Visual SourceSafe 6.0 for Visual Basic and C++ development. I also use SS to keep some simple text files that contain configuration information for my applications that are being developed. I just recently began to store those text files in my SS database. I noticed something quite strange and unexplainable so I showed it to one of my colleagues who could not explain it either.
I check out a text file from SS. I launch TextPad and attempt to edit it. TextPad says it is read-only. I check the file's properties and the read-only flag is not checked. I edit the file with NotePad and WordPad and save it back to the hard drive. I launch TextPad and attempt to edit the file. TextPad says it is read-only. I reboot my machine and launch TextPad and attempt to edit the file. TextPad says it is read-only.
Is there something I have to do special inside TextPad to configure it so it can edit files checked out of SS independent of TextPad's operation? I don't want to check out files from within TextPad, I just want to edit ones that have already been checked out.
Any clues?
Joe

Re: SourceSafe files read-only
You may have opened your file from the Recent File List. This is a known bug in 4.5 too and is fixed in 4.6.
