[Licensed TextPad 4.5 on Windows XPsp1 + all updates]
I wondered if anyone else had run into a recent problem editing text files (any extension) which exist in any folder on Windows NT4 servers. TextPad hangs during the file open process, although the same files open in Wordpad, Notepad, Word, etc. The same files files copied to WIndows2000 servers open with no problem. Since this just started happening within the last 3 days I am assuming that a WinXP update must have changed something related to the way TextPad on WinXP opens files on NT4 servers. It's not a huge problem, obviously: I can just move the file locally to edit it, then move it back. However it's so weird and reproducible that I wondered if anyone else had run into this?
(I know, I know...I just need to get rid of the NT4 servers!)

Re: Edit files on NT4 servers from WinXP
In case anyone cares, I discovered the solution to this strange problem: in TextPad, Configure, Preferences, File: check [x] Keep files locked while editing them. This setting is normally unchecked by default.
Opening files in 'unlocked' state only began causing TextPad to hang (using ~30-50% CPU on both the local WinXP computer and NT 4sp6a servers) while opening files on the server.within the last few days. No significant changes to servers other than MS Windows updates/patches have been made recently.

Thank you Mark!
We were two guys spending a whole day trying to fix this, with two XP machines with TextPad 4.5 installed and only one could open files on our NT4 server without freezing. As it turns out, only one of the XP machines has Windows Auto Update turned on...
