Inconsistant Syntax Highlighting

I just recently downloaded a syntax file for PHP, but I get very inconsistent highlighting. For example, on consecutive lines in a class I define variables using the 'var' keyword. On some lines it highlights 'var' on others it does not. I noticed when typing it would highlight it, but when I reload the file later it may not.

I have tried several different versions of .syn file available for download, but have seen the same results.

Any ideas?
