I have been using TextPad for a couple years without problem until 2 days ago.
I installed a W2K Advanced Server and TextPad 4.5. The installation process can't even open the README.TXT file at the end. I have tried to reinstall TextPad but no use. Please help!
TextPad is such a great tool and I don't want to miss it.

Re: TextPad hangs on file opening
Just solved the problem.
It happens to be I am using W2K server + NAI NetShield. By default, NetShield only scans selected file type for viruses. Looks like that TextPad is sitting there waiting for NetShield to scan the file while NetShield thinks that it is non of his problem (NetShield by default doesn't scan text files)?
If I turn off NetShield OR change NetShield to scan all files, Bingo!

Re: TextPad hangs on file opening
Thanks for your solution. This problem has been frustrating the hell out of me for 6 months. I just could not understand why it was impossible to use my favorite editor on one particular server. Even files that were shared on that server, I could not open from my workstation! And yes, it is a W2K server.
Tip: instead of enabling scan of all file types, just disable scan of outbound files and enable inbound. Like that, files are scaned only when they are written not every time they are read.
Question: Is this a TextPad bug or a NetShield bug? Why don't I have the same problem with McAffee VirusScan on W2K prof?
