Lose functionality in XP

I've noticed that after cutting and pasting from apps in XP to Textpad (4.5) and back, I often can't copy or paste using the Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V commands, and must use an apps copy and past menu options. Without these, the text I'm copying or pasting is shown as a narrow vertical bar like this.

Anyone else seen this, and is there a fix?

Do you have any other third party apps interferring with the clipboard installed? I use Textpad in XP and CTRL-V/C/X have worked since last Oct. when I installed it. No problems.

Are you copying English text? The problem might have something to do with unicode or localization.
