Can't open/Can't re-install

Dear Forum.

I've used TextPad for ages with great results.

All of a sudden, when I click on a *.txt file in Explorer, I get an error and file opens in notepad instead.
"Can't find the file *.* - check to make sure it is available and all libraries are available."

So I went to re-install and after the install starts I get
"Install Shield - ikernel.exe could not be launched"

I've re-downloaded and tried again - no luck.
I've searched the forum for "ikernel.exe" - no luck.

Hope someone can help.

Problem

When installing Paymate, prior to beginning to copy files, receive an error message ?Error installing ikernel.exe {any number}?


Solution

Abort installation. Reinstall Internet Explorer version 5.x. If you are running it on a network, you should also reinstall NT Service Pack 3.x or higher.



Reinstalling Internet Explorer 5.x can also repair a number of corrupted /missing core files from your machine. This may result in improved performance.
