Can Underscore not be part of a word

I program in a language that uses _ (underscore) as an operator, not as part of a name. I know that I can remove the underscore from "Other characters in words" in the document classes section of Preferences. This changes the behavior of double click to just highligh the word without the underscores -- good so far. However, this does not change the behavior of the "Match whole words" options of Find (or ctrl-F). Is it possible to change Find (and Find in Files) to not consider underscore as part of a word?
