Transporting Clip Libraries

Post by Mike Hennessy »

I would like to move a personally designed clip library from computer to computer (work, home, laptop, etc).

I thought it would be as easy as moving a .tcl file, but that doesn't seem to work.

Could anybody point me toward documentation or walk me through it?

Thanks,
Mike

From the Add-Ons - Clip Libraries Page:

Instructions:
After you have download one of these files, extract its contents into the SAMPLES subfolder of your TextPad installation folder, then select it as follows:
From the View menu, choose Clip Library.
Click the down arrow on the Clip Library, to display the list of books.
Choose the one you want to use, from the drop-down list.

That's a bit generic/dated ... You should go to Configure/Preferences/Folders
and see which folder "Clip Library" is pointing to (I believe "Samples" is the old, generic default) and put all you clips in that folder and of course other things like Macros, Syn Defs, etc. in the folders specified for them -- if you want you can create a new folder for each [and I'd recommend it if you have a lot of each -- tho' a casual user isn't going to have problems just dumping everything into "Sample"], like:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\TEXTPAD 4\User\clip" for Clips, and point the entry there.
