Search in files

Post by HY »

Hello,

When I click on the save button, TextPad automatically starts the save dialog in the same folder as the document I am currently working on. (If I'm not mistaken, this is an option in preferences: "working folder follows active document".)

Am I the only one who misses this feature in the "search in files" dialog? I'd very much like it to start in the same folder as my active document... Could this possibly be an enhancement for the next version?

Regards,
HY

Clicking the "Defaults" button (just above Help) in the "Find in files" dialog brings up the current directory. I haven't noticed any other changes to the settings.

Yes, looks like Defaults does the trick. Unfortunately this is not documented.

Another thing which annoys me in the Find in Files box is the browse button, as it is not aligned with the "search where" dropdown thing.

Actually, it is documented. I found out when trying to figure out what _else_ the "Defaults" button does. Here's the help-text:

In the In Folder box, either type the pathname to the folder containing the files, or select a previous folder from the drop-down list, or click Defaults to set it to the current working folder

Why is the button text "Defaults"? Seems to me "Current working directory" (or "cwd" / "pwd") would be more appropriate for a button that does nothing else... And yes, Andreas, I too have been wondering why it isn't alligned with the "search where" dropdown field...

Thanks for your help. Now I love Paddy even more.

I think this is "by design" since the browse button works either for
the "In files" combo or the "In folder" combo depending on which one
had the focus the last time.

Wow, another feature I never knew about!
Thanks Thomas!
I never tried the browse button for selecting the files to search in!
I always used the In Folder to get the correct folder and selected the files by typing filters to match the files I wanted.

Now I understand the button position.
